When a believer falls sick the Almighty Allah appoints an angel to write down the good deeds done by him while in good health.
You should not complain at the time of sickness i.e. you should not say: “I have become involved in an affliction in which none else has been involved” and things like that.
To bleed is curative.
Abstinence is the basis of all medicines and stomach is the main cause of all ailments.
So long as your body can bear the ailment you should abstain from taking medicine.
If you practice the following acts you will always remain healthy:
- Eat when you are hungry.
- Drink water when you are thirsty
- Urinate when you feel like urinating
- Sleep when you feel sleepy
Honey cures every ailment.
It has been narrated that you should treat your sick with alms because alms avert big calamities.
There is no harm in receiving treatment from a non-Muslim doctor.
The Almighty Allah said to one of His Prophets:
“I will not cure you unless you receive medical treatment”.[1]
Taking a little sugar cube with cold water at the time of breakfast is very efficacious for fever.
Drinking rain water is very useful for being cured of many ailments.
Reciting the Holy Quran is curative and in this regard the repetition of Surah al-Hamd (1:1-7) and (ii) Ayatul Kursi (2: 225-257) has been emphasized.
Similarly the following supplication of Nur has also been narrated:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ النُّورِ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ نُورِ النُّورِ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ نُورٌ عَلىٰ نُورٍ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الَّذِى هُوَ مُدَبِّرُ الْأُمُورِ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الَّذِى خَلَقَ النُّورَ مِنَ النُّورِ . الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِى خَلَقَ النُّورَ مِنَ النُّورِ، وَأَنْزَلَ النُّورَ عَلَى الطُّورِ، فِى كِتابٍ مَسْطُورٍ، فِى رَقٍّ مَنْشُورٍ، بِقَدَرٍ مَقْدُورٍ، عَلىٰ نَبِيٍّ مَحْبُورٍ . الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي هُوَ بِالْعِزِّ مَذْكُورٌ، وَبِالْفَخْرِ مَشْهُورٌ، وَعَلَى السَّرَّاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ مَشْكُورٌ . وَصَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلىٰ سَيِّدِنا مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ
[In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.]
In the Name of Allah the Illuminator, In the Name of Allah the Illuminator of the light. In the Name of Allah the Illuminator over every Illumination. In the Name of Allah the Disposer of all events. In the Name of Allah, who created light from light. All praise is to Allah Who created light from light, and descended the light on Mount Tur; all described inthe written Book, in an out straight fine parchment and in the fixed quantity which has been revealed to the wise Prophet. All praise be to Allah Who is remembered with greatness, and glory famed with His Honour, and Who is thanked in prosperity as well as in distress. O Allah! Send your blessings on our Leader Muhammad (peace be on him and his progeny) and his thoroughly purified progeny]
Eating leek and dates and drinking milk as a part of breakfast has been emphasized.
It has been narrated in numerous Ahadith that reciting: لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ اِلاَّ بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيْمِ, removes grief
[There is no strength nor power except that of Allah The High, the Magnificent.]
The sand of the grave of Imam Husain (a.s.) — the Doyen of Martyrs — is curative, provided you have faith in it and you do not take it more than the size of a pea.
If a person visits a sick Muslim brother 70,000 angels send greetings to him on that day. Request your sick brother to pray for you, because the prayer of a sick person is like the prayer of the angels and is accepted soon.
When you visit a sick person take with you some apples or quinces or citrons or scent (for him).

It has been mentioned earlier that when a person is involved in calamities and ailments he should seek natural remedies and along with that he should request the Almighty Allah who actually occasions everything to make these remedies effective. This is the reason why the verses and supplications have been mentioned with regards to such cases.
