The founding grounds of the Islamic Center for Cultural and Religious Activities in Bucharest date back 2001 Dr. Hajj al-Islam and the Muslim Dr. Mohammad Javad Ajei purchased an apartment for its activities in Romania under the responsibility of the Association of Islamic Students of Europe. With the expansion of the community’s activities and the growing needs of Iranians living in Bucharest, many religious ceremonies and events were held at the Iranian school, with the support of the ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but it was still necessary to provide a suitable and independent place for cultural and religious activities.
So, by the year of the sale of the apartment of the Islamic Association and funding from other sources, he bought a plot of land of 2500 square meters, and then in 2007 decided to sell this land and buy another land of 9000 square meters. In addition, another land was purchased in 2014 by Mr. Mostafavi and Dr. Ajei, on a 1000 square meter plot of land in the center of the city with a 1300 square meter building inside it. The current Islamic Center building is that building and is renovated.
To this end, the Imam Ali Cultural Foundation was established in 2007 under the leadership of the late Dr. Ejei, and with its partial preparation, the building was put into operation on Eid Saeed Fitr Day in 2019, and the Eid prayer center was officially opened. Completion of this building is still ongoing, and we hope to see full use of the building in an area of over 1750 square meters in the near future.
Along with the administrative affairs, support, and equipping of the center building, the necessary follow-up to the establishment and residence of the center’s imam was also seriously pursued. Seyed Hamid Hosseini took over the responsibility and settled in Romania to manage the Center’s cultural and content affairs and continues to meet the cultural and religious needs of the Center’s audience and clients.
