The payment of Zakat al-Fitr at the end of the holy month of Ramazan is an obligatory act and a condition for the acceptance of fasting and worship during this blessed month. Therefore, we inform the Muslims residing in Romania about the amount and method of payment for this charitable duty, along with the relevant amounts for Kaffarah (expiation).
- Anyone who is not in financial need and whose living expenses are not covered by another person must pay Zakat al-Fitr for themselves and their dependents from the night of Eid al-Fitr until before the Eid prayer, even if they have not fasted. Alternatively, they can set the amount aside to be given to needy believers.
- The amount of Zakat al-Fitr for this year (1446 AH – 2025 AD) in Romania:
Based on the price of wheat: 15 RON per person
For those whose staple food is rice: 45 RON per person
- Kaffarah (Expiation) for Breaking a Fast:
- If a fast is missed due to a valid excuse and its Qada (make-up) is not completed before the next Ramadan, the expiation is 5 RON per day.
- If a fast is deliberately skipped without a valid excuse, the expiation is 200 RON per day.
- There is no specific deadline for paying Kaffarah, but it is recommended to do so as soon as possible. The amount must only be used to provide food for the poor.
- The amounts mentioned above are approximate. The more one gives, the greater the reward and virtue.
- Zakat al-Fitr and Kaffarah can be given directly to needy believers in your area or entrusted to a reliable foundation or individual who will distribute it on your behalf to those in need.
May Allah accept all our acts of worship and charity. Ameen!
