After Allah, the Prophet (s.a.w.a.), and the Imams (a.s.) (appointed by Allah for our guidance), there is no one as kind to us as our parents. They rear and nourish us, educate us and prepare us for the struggle of life. They feel true joy when we achieve something. They suffer for our welfare but never mention it like others.
We must be thankful to Allah for having granted us a great blessing like parents. We should also be grateful to our parents for their kindness. We should serve them sincerely. We should keep them happy and should never disobey them. Allah has commanded us in the Holy Quran to be good to our parents.
In the battle fought by the unbelievers against Islam, some men belonging to the tribe of Lady Halima, the foster mother of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), were captured as prisoners of war, and a large quantity of booty also fell into the hands of the Muslims. Later some leading men of that tribe came into the presence of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and said:
“O Muhammad! Kindly remember the days when one of the women of our tribe nurtured you during your childhood and we expect you to recompense us for the services rendered to you by
her.”
On hearing this, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) immediately released the prisoners who had come in his share and also returned the share of booty which he had received. Besides this, he also advised his companions to act on the example set by him.
The above incident clearly indicates the love and reward to which our parents are entitled. Allah too is not pleased with those who do not keep their parents happy. The Holy Quran says that Allah is never pleased with those who do not keep their parents happy and pleased.
Worship no one but Allah, and respect your parents.
